Effect of blood T. cruzi trypomastigotes on cytokine/chemokine secretion in placental histocultures. Placental villi were transducted overnight with VSV-G pseudotyped HIV-1 (V) (100 ng p24/placental block) alone or in the presence of blood trypomastigotes (BT) (10⁶ parasites/placental block). Histoculture supernatants were collected after infection or coinfection, diluted with 10% FCS in RPMI and used for the simultaneous determination of cytokine/chemokine production with Luminex technology. Results displayed correspond to IL-6 (p < 0.01), IL-8 (p < 0.05), IP10 (p < 0.01) and MCP-1 (p < 0.02). Results are expressed as the mean ± SD and are representative of 5 independent experiments.
